Kc4u Activities

Helping youth reach their full potential!

As part of the EU’s Erasmus+ Sport program, Kc4u participants from Slovenia & Italy came together to engage in a diverse range of activities from December 2023-August 2024

Kc4u In-School Events

581 children participated in the 19 hands-on crew kayaking events in 4 schools in Sardinia & Slovenia. With 47.8% of the participants not knowing that kayaking is a competitive sport, the events raised awareness whilst actively engaging youth in fun team sporting activities. 37 Kc4u athletes took part in a training workshop before assisting with coaching their peers at the 10 activity stations.

K4 Open Days

In the weeks following the K4 In-school events, local children had the opportunity to get out on the water and try K4 paddling for free at Circolo Nautico Oristano, and Kajak Klub Zlatorog.

National K4 Day

Kc4u held the first ever large scale K4 event in Slovenia at Lake Bohinj. This event combined morning training with a K4 competition in the afternoon. 8 Slovenian clubs, and CNO took part in the event with 78 competitors forming 42 single and mixed-gender K4 crews.

International K4 Camps

Winter and summer International K4 Camps challenged participants aged 8-16 yrs to paddle in mixed-gender, mixed-nationality K4 crews. 16 athletes took part in the winter camp in Cabras (Sardinia), and 28 athletes took part in the summer camp at Lake Bohinj (Slovenia). A gender-equal project, 52% of Kc4u camp participants were female.

Environmental, Cultural, & Art Actions

The Beach Clean-up in Sardinia saw 45 participants collect 73 large garbage bags of waste and many other larger items. Led by local artist Andrea Pala, participants then used waste collected on the beach to make art.

Camp participants were also involved in a T-shirt design competition, and several cultural and environmental excursions.

Foreign Language Learning

Participants and staff communicated with each other in a mix of English, Italian, and Slovene. To enhance language learning, the following activities were completed by camp participants:
– Kc4u Tri-lingual Kayak Language Course (an app designed by Kc4u with involvement from the athletes)
– EU Academy online courses, My English A1, and My Italian A1
– KKZ Italian School
– Kc4u Live Language Quiz
– Filming of tri-lingual social media videos

Our Impact

First K4 experiences

Kc4u was the first time paddling and competing in K4’s for the majority of the Slovenian project participants. It was also the first time any of the participants had paddled in mixed-nationality crews.

New cross-border collaboration & friendships

Making new friends, travelling abroad, and paddling in mixed K4’s were the 3 most highly valued aspects of the project by participants

Bringing dreams within reach for children

Kc4u provided unique and exciting opportunities to young people who face many barriers to international travel and experiences
